Adrienne J. "Adie" (McKinney) Esberg

Adrienne "Adie" Joan Esberg, 87, of Goshen, a daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and friend, died peacefully Saturday, Nov. 13, 2021, at Greencroft Healthcare.

She was born in South Bend on April 10, 1934, to Forrest and Mary (Boone) McKinney.

On Feb. 13, 1955, Adie married James A. Esberg. He preceded her in death Jan. 7, 1996. She was also preceded in death by her parents.

A graduate of South Bend Riley High School, Adrienne attended Manchester College, and completed her education at Indiana University with a degree in dental hygiene in 1954. She was the first dental hygienist in Elkhart and Goshen. She practiced for 46 years until her retirement in 2000. She was active in the local Dental Hygienists Association and volunteered in the Elkhart and Middlebury Schools.

Mrs. Esberg was an active member of the Trinity on Jackson Church, the United Methodist Women's Organization and Naomi Circle. She was a member of Chapter Al of the PEO Sisterhood, recently celebrating her 50th anniversary, and frequently volunteered in the Bridges Program at Chamberlain School in Goshen.

Throughout her life, Adie was always up for fun and adventure. She loved to travel, play bridge, ride the tallest rollercoasters and spend time with her grandsons at Corey Lake. Adie was even known to jump off her roof into snowdrifts and swim in the ocean during a hurricane. She had an open heart, an infectious laugh and never met a stranger.

She is survived by her son, Michael D. Esberg; daughter-in-law, Carolyn; two grandsons, Jack and Frank; and her "other kids," Van and Cathy Kessler and Kirby Elliott.

A private family entombment will take place at Rice Cemetery, Elkhart.

There will be one hour of visitation on Thursday, Dec. 9, prior to the noon memorial service at Trinity on Jackson Church, 2715 E. Jackson Blvd., Elkhart.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Trinity on Jackson, 2715 E. Jackson Blvd., Elkhart, IN 46516, or Goshen Home Care & Hospice, 1147 Professional Dr., Goshen, IN 46526.
