Ronald E. Olsen, 89, of Wilson, passed away on Saturday, March 25, 2023 at the Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center in Iron Mountain after a lengthy illness.

He was born on September 14, 1933 in South Bend, IN, the son of Olle C. and Thelma C. (Dumont) Olsen. Ron was raised in South Bend and graduated from Riley High School in 1951 and then beauty school in 1962. He later attended Indiana University South Bend.

On October 6, 1956, Ron married the former Patsy Kay Fisher in Angola, IN and together they shared 66 years of marriage.

Ron worked over 20 years for Bailey’s Beauty Supply in South Bend as the store manager. Prior to his retirement in 1998, he was employed as a security guard and custodian for Michiana Community Hospital in South Bend.

Ron enjoyed following the stock market. He was an avid Green Bay Packers and Notre Dame football fan, and loved his dogs, reading, and the Lord. He always dreamt of running his own restaurant and was fortunate enough to make that dream into a reality. Ron was a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church in Norway, but had been attending services at Bark River Bible Church in Bark River since his health declined.

He is survived by his wife, Patsy; children, Ronald (Karla) Olsen of South Bend, IN, Debra (William) Fabiano of Walkerton, IN, Rebecca (Raymond) Thompson of South Bend, IN, and Shari (Brian) Wery of Norway; 12 grandchildren, Lindsey, Raymond, Heather, Jonathan, Brittany, Tara, Eric, Andrew, Mark, Joshua, Shane, and Daniel; 30 great-grandchildren; his first great-great-grandchild due soon; as well as four nieces and two nephews.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, David Olsen; and two sisters, Anita Hunt and Ollene Swanson.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 22nd from 12-1 p.m. (EST) at the Bark River Bible Church, 1105 12th Rd, Bark River. Military honors will take place at 1 p.m. with the funeral service to immediately follow with Pastor Brad Cochrane and Pastor Jim Danielson officiating

Burial will be in the Wilson Seventh-Day Adventist Cemetery.
