Robert J. Boda

Dec. 14, 1930 - May 27, 2022

MADISON - Robert J. Boda, age 91, of Madison, passed away on Friday, May 27, 2022, at St. Mary's Hospital. He was born on Dec. 14, 1930, in South Bend, Ind., the son of Steve and Lena (Hirschler) Boda.

Bob graduated from Riley High School in South Bend.

He served in the U. S. Army from Dec. 7, 1951, until his honorable discharge on Nov. 17, 1953. Bob earned his business degree in 1959 from Indiana University. He was united in marriage to Gloria Ann Sack on June 9, 1961, in Mishawaka, Ind.

Bob worked as a transportation and distribution manager for Sanna Corp, Hubinger and Moores Food Products (Clorox) from the 1960s to 1992. He also worked for Studebaker Corporation and Uniroyal (U.S. Rubber) from the 1950s to 1960s.

Growing up in Indiana during the depression and losing his mother when he was 3 years old did not harden him. Quite the opposite, it gave him a drive to better his life as he grew up and stories to tell when he grew old. He loved to make new friends and put a smile on others faces. He was a genuinely good man who took life's challenges in stride and gave us a role model to pass on to future generations. We would all be lucky to live the long, full life he did. He is now in the arms of his true love, Gloria.

Bob was a member of Christ Presbyterian Church. Robert enjoyed maintaining his immaculate yard, playing softball in his younger years, and playing ball with the neighborhood kids.

Bob is survived by his children, Deborah (Rick) Mobley, Gregg (Julie) Kaiser, Rebecca (Michael) Hanneman and Christopher (Beverly) Boda; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria; parents, Steve and Lena; brothers, Steve, Elmer and Lou Boda; sister, Caroline Smorin; and grandson, LeRoy Grandt.

A funeral service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 3, 2022. A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday. Burial will be held at Highland Memory Gardens with full military honors.

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and caregivers at St. Mary's Hospital for their caring service. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.
