Billy L. Stalker

SOUTH BEND - Billy L. Stalker, 75, passed away peacefully on Monday morning, April 9, in his home. He was born June 22, 1931, in Clinton, IN, to the late James G. and Josephine E. (Brennan) Stalker. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Thelma Hermann, Bettie Wingerter and Jerri Jackson, and by a brother, Gilbert Stalker.

On September 12, 1953, in South Bend, he married the former Elizabeth "Bette" Weaver, his wife of 53 years. Also surviving are his loving children, Julie Stalker, Lea Pitcher (Larry), Diana Breden (Marc) of South Bend; and son, Greg Stalker (Barb) of Corey Lake, MI; six grandchildren, Brad Stalker (Shannon), Janet Carr (Abe), Amy and Aaron Troutmiller, Katie and Eli Breden; a great-grandchild due in May; and a sister, Mary Jo Babcock (Robert) of Clarksville, IN.

Billy retired from the I&M Electric Power Co. in 1994 after 42 years as regional dispatcher and worked part-time as a meat cutter at Baims Meat Locker for 19 years.

He graduated from Riley High School, and in 1950 he joined the United States Air Force and was discharged in 1954.

He was a member of VREA (Veteran Retired Employee Association), the AEP Poker Club, Michiana Kiwanis and was past president. He was also a recipient of the Bass Peanut award many times, The Mercator Club and Northwest United Methodist Men, and the prayer chain of the church.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 12, in Northwest United Methodist Church, 21855 Brick Road, with Rev. Vicki Van Nevel officiating, and burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. Friends may call in The Welsheimer Family Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Road, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today. Billy was very proud of his loving wife Betty, his children and grandchildren.
