George Gerencser

November 19, 1942     ~     January  26, 2019

George Gerencser passed away on January 26, 2019 at Shands hospital. He was born in South Bend, Indiana on November 19, 1942 to George and Mary Gerencser. He graduated from South Bend Reilly high school. After earning a basketball scholarship, he attended Murray State University in Kentucky. He received his BS degree from Marion College in Indianapolis followed by a PhD from Indiana University. 

George loved his family, work at the University of Florida school of medicine, basketball, playing tennis at the 300 Club, traveling, and helping those less fortunate. He is survived by his wife, Alison, and three children, Jeff (Debbie), Elizabeth (Michael) and Robert (Tammy) and six grandchildren, Tyler and Carley Gerencser, Matt and Evan Cota and Bella and Ryan Gerencser.

The family extends appreciation to the ICU trauma team at Shands hospital who provided kindness and sensitivity as well as professionalism during a difficult time. A celebration of George's life will be held privately in the spring. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to a charity of your choice. Arrangements are in the care of CREVASSE CREMATION.
