Heaven gained a kind, gentle soul Sunday, April 25, 2004, when John Kramer went home to rest in the arms of God. He left this life under the tender and kind ministering of the hospice staff at Shell Point Retirement Community sur-rounded by his family. He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Mildred A. Kramer; his daughter, Jacqueline Olson and husband, Stan Olson of Haywood, Wis., John William Kramer and wife, Barbara Kramer of Phoenix, Ariz.; five grandchildren, Timothy Olson (deceased), Lisa Anne Barrix, Angela Hetherington, Heather O'Niell and Christopher Olson; and one great-grandson, Jacob Barrix. He also leaves one brother, James Kramer of Bear Lake, Ind.

He was the son of the late George and Bertha Kramer of South Bend, Ind. He was born Jan. 26, 1913, in South Bend. He graduated with honors from. Purdue University, Lafayette, Ind., with a degree in chemical engineering. Following Mr. Kramer's retirement from his job as chief chemical engineer for LaCrosse Footwear in La Crosse, he traveled, spent time in Brazil, Sri Lanka and Mexico, while solving problems pertaining to their rubber footwear industries. 

Mr. Kramer was an active, lifelong member of the La Crosse Rotary and Rotary International; he was also a member of the Elks Club, ELCA Lutheran Church and Boy Scouts of America. Mr. Kramer was an avid fisherman, hunter, boater and outdoorsman. He taught his family to love and value the outdoors. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend, and will always be cherished by his family and friends.
