Fred Bennett Cherrone - Class Of 1949 VIEW PROFILE

Fred Bennett Cherrone

July 13, 1930 - May 6, 2022

Welcomed into the arms of Jesus on May 6, 2022, at the age of 91. Dear devoted husband of Rosalie (nee Hordyk) for 63 years. Loving Dad of Beth (Christopher) Mantoan. Proud and caring Grampa of Jolene and Becky. Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Frances, and his twelve siblings. He is survived by two sisters-in-law, Patricia and Leilani Hordyk, many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Born in South Bend, Indiana, Fred excelled in football, baseball, and track, while a student at Riley High School. His passion of sports continued thru his life with bowling, teaching his daughter to bowl and play softball, and following the successes of the Milwaukee Braves/Brewers and Green Bay Packers. Boastful pride in the individual achievements, both academic and athletic, of his granddaughters, centered his life.

Fred was extremely proud to serve his country as a United States Marine from 1951-1953. He was honorably discharged as a Corporal.

Meeting Rosalie in 1954, while co-honoring at a family wedding, prompted his move to Milwaukee. As charter members of St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, their marriage in 1959 gave entrance to varied volunteerism throughout his life. He was extremely generous and free of limit in his time and energy, whenever his FAITH or FAMILY were in need of his services.

With fond memories of his years as a printer at Wisconsin Electric Power Company (WEEnergies), he retired after 25 years of service in 1995.

A generous smile and handshake or hug made family and friends always know he was proud to be included in their lives. In sharing his heart, he will always be missed.

A sincere THANK YOU to the kind physicians, personnel, and nursing angels at West Allis Memorial Hospital, for their compassionate attention and support.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 20, 2022, at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, 3160 S. 63 St. (63rd/Oklahoma), Milwaukee, at 11:00 AM. Visitation AT CHURCH from 9:30-10:45 AM.

Military honors and burial service will be held at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Cemetery in Union Grove at a future date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Alzheimers Association at http://act.alz.org/goto/fcherrone or St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church are appreciated.
