K. Jeanene (Haynes) Champion

Kathryn Jeanene (Haynes) Champion, 81, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2012, at home after a long battle with cancer. She was born May 12, 1931, in Spencer County, daughter of the late Norman Delbert and Mary Kathryn (Dawson) Haynes. Also preceding her in death were her stepfather, Ralph Moseby; her sister, Norma Faye Wright and her husband, John Lenn Wright.

Jeanene was a 1949 graduate of South Bend Riley High School.

She was united in marriage to Carl Everett Champion June 29, 1952, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Rockport. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this year. They spent most of their time with each other and together helped others. They were honored in 2003 with the Volunteers Award from the First United Methodist Church and the Tell City Historical Society's 2006 Distinguished Citizens of the year.
She was a member throughout the years of Order of Eastern Star 272, First United Methodist Church, ladies bridge club and couples bridge club. She retired in 1990 from General Electric after 40 years of service, 19 years in production and 21 years in payroll.

Jeanene enjoyed playing cards, traveling and visiting with family and friends.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Carl of Tell City; her daughters, Carla (Dennis) Weatherholt of Rotonda West, Fla., and Camilla Ayer (Harold Brothwell) of Santa Claus; a son, Jeffrey (Carol) Champion of Santa Claus; five grandchildren, Jarod Weatherholt, Ryan Champion, Lauren (Chris) Guth, Kyle Ayer and Tyler Ayer and one great-granddaughter, Sophia Guth.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 24, at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel, with burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Pastor Andy Payton officiated. Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church. Messages of condolence may be left online at www.huberfuneralhome.net.
