SOUTH BEND - Joan Phyllis Overmyer, Scottsdale, AZ, loving wife to Ted, passed away at home on June 8, 2007. Born in South Bend, Indiana, in 1931, to Joseph and Eudora Stoner, she was the youngest of eight loving brothers and sisters.

She graduated from Riley High School and moved to Texas for a short while.

She and her husband lived most of their years in Wisconsin until they retired to Scottsdale. She was a lifelong student and follower of Christian Science. Joanne had an incredible personality filled with laughter, love, and a zany spirit. She accepted others without judgment and made everyone feel special, treasured, and each felt they were her favorite. Also a wonderful singer and piano player. Her music, her unconditional love, and her laughter will be missed by all.

She is survived by her favorite daughters and sons-in-law, Sherri (Dan) York of Los Angeles and Leslie (Gary) Howard of Denver; her favorite grandchildren, Kendall (Griffin) York and Genevieve and Alexia Howard; her favorite sister, Ruthe Easterday of Mishawaka; her favorite brothers, Gene Stoner (Sharon) of Granger, and Dale (Dottie) Stoner of Lakeville; her favorite brother-in-law, Terry (Lucy) Overmyer; her favorite nieces and nephews, Connie Sheffield, Bobby Lee Stoner, Barbara Pfeiffer, Nancy May, Diana Sipe, Susie Hale, Bill Stoner, Tom Stoner, Tami Voss, Craig Easterday, Larry Newman, Randy Stoner, Cheryl Andert, Rick Stoner, Pam Stoner, Gene Stoner Jr., John Overmyer; and her favorite great and great-great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her other favorite brothers and sisters, Lee Stoner, Bob Stoner, Joe Stoner, Reatha "Tete" Newman and Rowena Stoner and her parents.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 13, from 6 to 8 p.m. in McGann Hay, Forest G. Hay Chapel, 435 S. Ironwood Dr., South Bend, with funeral services on Thursday, June 14, at 1 p.m. Private burial to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to ALS-AZ Chapter, 4520 N.
