David Lamar Harper, Sr.
August 4, 1958 ~ July 28, 2021 (age 62)
Today we honor the life of David L Harper lovingly known as “Big Harp” and ”Jim Wizner”. David was a devoted loving husband, father, son, brother and grandfather who departed this life on July 28, 2021. David was born on August 4, 1958 to the union of Lee and Dora Esther Harper.
David was a lifelong resident of South Bend, IN who graduated from Riley High School. David built a career of 30 years as a journeymen’s roofer working for Midland Engineering until his retirement. David faithfully attended Mt Zion Cathedral of Praise COGIC, where he loved hearing the choir and enjoyed hearing the word of God. David spent much of his time enjoying his family, especially grandchildren. He would call his mother every day. David loved watching the Chicago Bears and Notre Dame football.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 39 years Sandra Herron-Harper of South Bend; his mother, Dora Esther Harper-Lee of South Bend; mother-in-law Pat Herron of South Bend; a devoted daughter, Shalonda (Amando) McGee-Hardin; six loving sons: David Jr, Daniel, Dexter, Darius Harper, all of South Bend, IN; Carlos (Tamiko) and Derrick Harper of Indianapolis, IN; two brothers, Jerry and Steve Harper of South Bend, IN; sixteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren; as well as a host of sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lee Harper, Sr.; stepfather Jeffery Lee; sister Joann Harper; brother Lee Harper, Jr.; sisters-in-law Joyce Ann Herron, Tracy Herron and Lois Thomas.
Services for Mr. David Harper will be held on Thursday August 5, 2021 at 1:00 pm at Palmer Funeral-West Chapel, 2702 Lincoln Way West, South Bend, IN 46628. Friends may call on the family for one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Superintendent Hayes Taylor will officiate. Burial to follow at Southlawn Cemetery.
