Gary E. Poindexter
March 6, 1956 - May 6, 2013 SOUTH BEND - Gary Eugene Poindexter, age 57, passed away May 6, 2013, at Elkhart Center for Hospice after an extended illness. Gary was born March 6, 1956, in South Bend, Indiana, to William and Sally (Lowrey) Poindexter, both of whom preceded him in death along with a brother, John Anthony Poindexter.
He graduated from Riley High School where he lettered in basketball; then he attended two years at Indiana State University.
He worked seven years for Bill Franks as a car detailer, ten years with Bendix as a machine operator, and eight years for the Jewish Federation as a janitor.
Survivors left to cherish his memory include his daughter, Sierra Poindexter; his son, Terrell Poindexter; one grandchild; seven sisters, Dawn Poindexter, all of South Bend, IN, Annette Warsley, Gwen, Mary and Ruth Poindexter, all of Fort Wayne, IN, Audrey Jones of Louisiana and Linda Bourgh of Gary, IN; three brothers, Alfred (Brigid) Poindexter of Fort Wayne, IN, Edward (Ollie) Poindexter of Grand Rapids, MI, and Ted (Phyllis) Williams of Chicago, IL; the love of his life and the mother of his only daughter, Kathy Stewart of South Bend, IN; along with a host of cousins, aunts, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 14, 2013, at Alford's Mortuary, with viewing occurring one hour prior to services. Alford's Mortuary has been entrusted with handling the arrangements. Messages of condolence may be sent to our website: www.ALFORDSMORTUARY.COM.
