G. Maxine Young, who formerly lived at 721 N. Huey Street, South Bend, Ind., passed away due to natural causes at 8 a.m. Monday morning, March 25, in the Rosewood Terrace Nursing Facility. She was 88 years old. Maxine was born in South Bend on Nov. 3, 1913, to Henry N. and Zoe R. (Swope) Fristoe.

She was married in South Bend as well to Forrest F. "Red" Young on March 30, 1932. He passed away in 1976. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Horace W. Fristoe; a sister, Mardelle Buczkowski; a son, David F. Young; and by a son-in-law, Carl Ciesiolka. She is survived by two sons, Ronald (Gloria) Young of Elkhart, Ind., and Ralph N. Young of Pensacola, Fla.; and three daughters, Mrs. Sandra (Richard) Birk of Granger, Ind., Mrs. Ruth (Michael) Combes of Mishawaka, Ind., and Mrs. Debbie (Barry) Hill of South Bend. Nine grandsons also survive: Mark (Kristin) Young, Scott Young, Troy (Michelle) Young, Paul Young, Darrick Young, Christopher (Crystal) Ciesiolka, Jeff (Kimberly) Ciesiolka, Joseph (Dawn) Combes and Keith Ernsperger; and five granddaughters, Mrs. Brenda (Daniel) Bryant, Mrs. Lori (Steve) Headley, Mrs. Michelle (David) Marshall, Mrs. Heather (Tony) Thomas and Mrs. Rita (Mike) Gruver. Maxine was also blessed with 19 great-grandchildren.

Her services will take place today, March 27, in Billings Funeral Home, Elkhart. Calling will extend from 4 to 8 p.m., with a funeral service to be held there at 7 p.m. She will then be cremated, and a private family graveside service will be held the following Saturday at Southlawn Cemetery in South Bend. Pastor Roy Andrews of the First Brethren Church of Elkhart will officiate both services.

Maxine spent most of her adult life as a faithful and loving housewife, with family gatherings being among her most favorite activities, where she would spend hours playing cards and board games. She also played bingo whenever she could, and was an avid animal lover. The family has asked that donations be made in Maxine's memory to either the United Cancer Services of St. Joseph County or to the St. Joseph County Humane Society.
