John Stanley Laughlin

Nov. 16, 1914 - Nov. 6, 2004 

John S. "George" Laughlin, 89, of South Bend, Ind., passed away at 5:45 p.m. Friday, Nov. 5, in Memorial Hospital of South Bend. He was born Nov. 16, 1914, in Warsaw, Ind., as the son of Joseph C. and Laurel (Longfellow) Laughlin.

On May 21, 1937, in South Bend, he married Helen Sholly. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Helen. Also surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Mike DeBartolo of Elkhart, Ind.; his son and daughter-in-law, John and Cindy Laughlin of Rapid City, S.D.; two grandchildren, Lea DeBartolo and Andrew DeBartolo; and two great-grandsons, Vincent Michael DeBartolo and Michael Edward DeBartolo. 

Mr. Laughlin was a graduate of James Whitcomb Riley High School and retired in 1980 as a purchasing agent for Sibley Machine & Foundry in South Bend.

Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 9, in the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan St., South Bend. Duane Sholly will officiate. The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. today, Nov. 8, in the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel. Contributions in memory of Mr. Laughlin may be made to the Center for Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc., 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637; or to the American Cancer Society, 535 West Edison Road, Mishawaka, IN 46545.
