SOUTH BEND - Former South Bend resident Louis Arthur Nelson Jr., 95, of Elmwood Park, IL, died at 11:05 a.m. Sunday, December 13, 2009, in Hubbard Hill Estates, Elkhart, IN, following a short illness. Mr. Nelson was born February 22, 1914, in South Bend, to the late Louis and Hattie (Henry) Nelson. On November 2, 1943, in Chicago, IL, he married Dorothy I. Butler, who preceded him in death September 27, 2009. He was also preceded in death by his son, Louis A. Nelson III, and his brother, Fred Nelson.

He is survived by three granddaughters, Jodie Nelson (Michael Parm) of Elkhart, IN, Connie M. Nelson of South Bend and Crystal Nelson of Mishawaka, IN; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Ruth Woods of Louisville, KY.

Mr. Nelson had been the operating manager for General Electric Co./Hot Point for 14 years in South Bend and 19 years in Chicago. While in South Bend he was a member of First Presbyterian Church and B.P.O.E. #235.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 18th, in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Road, with Rev. John Hays of First Presbyterian Church of River Forest, River Forest, IL, officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery, South Bend. Friends may call in the funeral home on Friday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of services.
