Galen W. Butterbaugh, 83, of 3109 East Bristol Street, Elkhart, Ind., died at 8:15 p.m. on Monday. March 1, in Elkhart General Hospital. He was born on June 10 1915, in Warsaw, Ind. He married Mary K. Kegerreis on April 2, 1939, in Elkhart. Ind. She survives. He is also survived by a daughter, Mrs. Gary (Janet) Micheel of Olathe, Kan.; a son, John E. of Elkhart; and by two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Eugene and Wesley Butterbaugh.

After World War II Mr. Butterbaugh joined his father-in-law, Clement O. Kegerreis, in Klem Industrial Supply. He later purchased the business and remained president until his retirement in 1974. He was a graduate of South Bend Riley High School and Manchester College. After college he taught for 3 1/2 years in the South Bend school system. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, was a life member of the Elks Lodge, was a former member of the Elkhart Noon Lions Club and, during World War II, served as communication officer with the U.S. Air Corps.

Memorial services will be held at a later date. The body will be cremated. The Hartzler-GutermuthInman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church in Elkhart.
