SOUTH BEND - Mr. Harry Coffman, 93, passed away of an illness at 5:00 p.m. Monday in the Healthwin Extended Care Facility. Harry was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, on November 29, 1914, to the late Samuel and Olia (Orlein) Coffman, and he moved to South Bend at age two from Winnipeg.

On January 9, 1938, in Grand Rapids, MI, he married Sarah Grunberg, who passed away on June 18, 2004. He was the owner of the South Bend Parking Company. Surviving Mr. Coffman are a son, David N. Coffman of Tucson, AZ; two sisters, Edith (Murray) Silverman of Gainesville, FL, and Leah (Neil) Silver of South Bend. A son, Michael S. Coffman, MD, and a brother, Louis Coffman, both predeceased Harry.

Funeral services will be today at 2:30 p.m. at Temple Beth-El on Lafayette Street in downtown South Bend, with Rabbi Eric Siroka officiating. Burial will follow at the Hebrew Orthodox Cemetery, Mishawaka. Mr. Coffman graduated from the University of Chicago with a bachelor's degree. He was a member of Temple Beth-El.

He was also an artist, and was featured in a South Bend Tribune special story a number of years ago. He studied art under several professors at the University of Notre Dame and he participated in over 100 art shows. His work is on permanent display in art museums all over Indiana.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his honor to the Sarah Coffman Library Fund at Temple Beth-El or to the Michael Coffman Scholarship fund at Indiana University, Bloomington, IN.
