John C. Derdak
JOHN C. DERDAK. 89, of Greenbriar Woodlands, TOMS RIVER, died Monday, March 7, 2005, at home. He was a special agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation for 29 years, serving in Pittsburgh, San Francisco and New York. Following retirement from the FBI in 1976, he worked for the New York Thoroughbred Protective Bureau and the N.Y. State Racing Commission at Belmont. Aqueduct and Saratoga Race-tracks, retiring 10 years ago. He served as a pilot with the First Air Commandos during World War II in the India Burma Theater. He was a life member of Greenbriar Woodlands V.F.W. Post 8885 and a dedicated volunteer at the Menlo Park Veterans Nursing Home.
He was born and raised in South Bend, IN., and graduated from North Texas State University in Denton, Texas.
He was predeceased by a sister, Frances Szauer; and a brother, Victor Derdak.
Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Joan Flynn Derdak; his five children. Dr. Stephen Derdak, Robert Derdak, Paul Derdak, Joanne Derdak, and Patricia Guarino; his five grandchildren, Nicole, Jessica, John, Matthew and Sarah; and a sister, Mary Kovach.
Visiting hours will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Silverton Memorial Funeral Home, 2482 Church Road, Toms River. The funeral will be Friday, arrive at 8:15 a.m. at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 9:15 a.m. at St. Luke's Roman Catholic Church, Toms River. Cremation will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations to Greenbriar Woodlands V.F.W. Post 8885, c/o 1 Kensington Circle, Toms River, NJ 08755 would be appreciated.
