SOUTH BEND - William P. Horvath, 97, lost his battle with cancer on August 16, 2012. He was born in Seward, PA, on February 5, 1915, to the late Ethel (Etelka Verazsto) and Alex (Sandor) Horvath. He moved to South Bend, IN, at a young age, where he lived until after his retirement. He had resided in South Haven, MI, and Haines City, FL, since 1976, and permanently in Haines City since 1992.

Bill graduated from James Whitcomb Riley High School in January 1934.

Bill was a business man doing roofing and siding, butchering, had a Blue Ribbon Pie route, and worked for Studebaker during WW II. For many years he worked multiple jobs at a time. Bill retired in 1978 from Bendix Aviation Corporation after 43 years of service.

Bill was married to Helen L. Bill on March 2, 1940, for 58 wonderful years until her death in 1998. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Alex, Louis, Robert and Frank; sisters, Madelon Heinrich and Jane Kaslly; and granddaughters, Elise Horvath and Corinne Waters.

Bill is survived by sons, Philip A. (Joan), Stephen L. (Peggy) and Charles P. (Carol); daughters, C. Jane Slick (Tom) and E. Jean Chapman (Chuck); 16 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, 14 great-great-grandchildren; and his special friend, Joan Hartings.

Bill lived an active life and very much enjoyed playing cards and Bingo with his friends. Until recently he golfed and bowled regularly. Bill was a great cook, baker, and was a wonderful dancer.

A small service will be arranged at the interment in South Bend, IN, at a later date. Expressions of sympathy on behalf of Bill may be offered to Good Shepherd Hospice, 2590 Havendale Blvd. NW, Winter Haven, FL 33881.
