William H. Krasen

Manistee, Michigan passed away on Sunday, May 9, 2004. e was retired Vice-President and Chief Financial Officer for the former American States Insurance Company, Indianapolis, where he worked for over 16 years. He was born in South Bend, Indiana on October 25, 1915, to Carl and Helen Krasen, and was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Rose E. Mariottini, born in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. They were married in St. Matthews Catholic Church in South Bend, on November 25, 1937.

William began his lifelong career in the insurance field, when in 1937, he joined the staff of the EMMCO Insurance Company in South Bend. In 1952, he moved his family to Battle Creek, Michigan, where he was employed as Secretary Treasurer of the Wolverine Federal Insurance Company for 16 years. He then spent two years with American Mutual Insurance Company, Des Moines, Iowa, before moving back to Indiana and joining American States in 1966. In 1973-1974, he served as President of the Indianapolis Society of Financial Analysts, and served with pride in various community activities including; President of the Calhoun County Cancer Society, in Battle Creek, and for SCORE in Manistee.

An avid golfer, he was proud of his two holes-in-one and the many first and second place trophies he won throughout the years. The highlight of his golfing adventures was the opportunity to play in an Indianapolis LPGA Pro-Am Tournament foursome with professional golfer, Beth Daniel.

William is survived by two sons, Thomas, Indianapolis, William H. Jr. Kalamazoo, Michigan; one daughter, Mary R. Simmons, Escanaba, Michigan; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at Guardian Angel Catholic Church in Manistee. Entombment in Escanaba, Michigan. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
