Robert E. Nurenberg

Robert E. Nurenberg, 84, of Ewing Avenue, South Bend, Ind., died at 10:45 a.m. on Friday, July 28, in the St. Joseph Community Hospital, Mishawaka, following an illness. Mr. Nurenberg was born on Nov. 10, 1915, in South Bend to Julius and Wilhelmina (Jeske) Nurenberg, and was a lifetime area resident. On Sept. 10, 1983, in South Bend, he married Ella M. Smith, she survives. Also surviving are two sons, Jerry Alan Nurenberg of South Bend and Thomas Neal Nurenberg of New Mexico; a stepson, Jerry L. Smith of South Bend; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Sigmund Nurenberg. 

Mr. Nurenberg retired in 1985 as a lithographer at Schillings Printing after 37 years. He was very active at Emmaus Lutheran Church where he was a member, serving as the church organist for over 65 years, Sunday school superintendent for 25 years, a member of the Board of Disciples, Board of Trustees and he had received the Lamb's Award from the church. He was also a member of the Misha-Bend Kiwanis Club for 15 years, a life member of the American Legion and had also served as a Boy Scout District Commissioner. He was a veteran of the Army Air Corps, serving in World War II. 

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 1, in Emmaus Lutheran Church, 929 E. Milton St., with Rev. D. Richard Stuckwisch officiating. Burial will follow at the St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger. Friends ay call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, July 31, in the Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521 .
