Mary Jane Buzolich

September 7, 1920 ~ May 23, 2022 (age 101)

Mary Jane Buzolich, 101, residing in Granger, passed away peacefully at 10:32am on Monday, May 23, 2022, in StoryPoint Retirement Community. She was born September 7, 1920, in South Bend to the late Paul and Katherine (Klemen) Buzolich and remained a lifelong area resident.

 

Mary Jane served her country honorably as a Navy WAVES – Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service during both World War II and the Korean Conflict, serving with Michiana Post #988. Following her discharge, she was employed as a secretary by the Social Security Administration for 27 years before retiring. Mary Jane was a very proper lady, always wearing a dress and a hat from her extensive collection. She was a devout Catholic and a lifelong member of Christ the King Catholic Church. She was also very active in several organizations including the Daughters of Isabella, where she served as Past Indiana State Regent and Past Regent of Local Circle, the National Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARFE), the National Secretaries Association, Altrusa International, SAGE, and the Faith, Hope and Charity Chapel.

 

Mary Jane is survived by five nieces, Georgia A. Old of East Lansing, MI, Christine “Tina” (Ken) Fricano of Braselton, GA, Rita (Terry) Holcomb of Laguna Woods, CA, Mary Lynn “Lynn” (Mike) Dorn of Coppell, TX and Margaret “Micki” (Jack) Wagner of Waukesha, WI; and one nephew, James “Jim” (Diane) Bernath of South Bend. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Louise K. Buzolich and Victoria Bernath; and nephew, Victor “Bud” Bernath.

 

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00pm on Wednesday, June 1, 2022, in Christ the King Catholic Church, 52473 IN-933, South Bend. Graveside services and burial will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola. Friends may visit with the family for one hour prior to Mass on Wednesday in the church. Palmer Funeral Home – Hickey Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.

 

Expressions of sympathy in memory of Mary Jane may be donated to St. Elizabeth / Coleman Pregnancy and Adoption Services, 2500 Churchman Avenue, Indianapolis, IN 46203 or the Snite Museum of Art, 100 Moose Krause Drive, Notre Dame, IN 46556.
