Nila Jean (Freshley) Crawford
1921 ~ June 2, 2021
NILA JEAN CRAWFORD, 100, of Fort Wayne, died on Wednesday, June 2, 2021, at home. Born in Grand view, Ind., she was a daughter of the late Philip and Alice Freshley. She moved to South Bend, attended high school and subsequently met and married Owen H. Crawford. After moving to Fort Wayne in 1960, Nila became involved with Newcomers and welcomed literally hundreds of people to the city. She was a member of Art League and Good Shepherd U.M.C. where she actively served in U.M.W. She also volunteered for Meals on Wheels and the Red Cross for numerous years. But her greatest joys were her family, faith, dear friends, the lake, traveling, and playing bridge. She is survived by her son, Dr. Greg (Nancy) Crawford of Sonoma, Calif.; daughter, Nancy Reitenour of Fort Wayne; grandchildren, Brian (Kristina) Reitenour, Leslie (Robbie) Smith, Amy (Jared) Crawford Schonig, and Matthew (Jamie) Crawford; and great- grandchildren, Trevor and Olivia Smith, Quinn Reitenour, and Jackson Schonig. Nila was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Owen; and son-in-law, Earl Reitenour. Nila requested a private service; however, a livestream may be viewed by visiting www.facebook.com/DOMcCombMaplewood on Tuesday, June 8, 2021, at 11 a.m. "Please join us in prayers of gratitude and celebration for a life well lived."
