Shirley Earl Rhoades

Shirley Earl Rhoades, 61, of 523 S. 25th St., died at 1:45 a.m. Wednesday at his home after a short illness. He was employed by the Bendix Corp. for more than 41 years. He was born on Nov. 18, 1920, in Mendon, Ohio, and lived in South Bend most of his life, coming from Ohio. On Sept. 1, 1940, in South Bend, he married Louise Whitacre, who died in July 1979.

He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Goldie Rhoades of South Bend, a daughter, Mrs. Anne Burns of Sheridan, IN,  two sons, Charles of Louisville, Ky., and Michael of South Bend; eight grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Vivian Markley. of Joplin, Mo.; and five brothers, Joseph of LaGrange, Charles of South Bend, Richard of Miami, Fla., Danny of California, and Jack of Greenville, Ind

 A daughter, Gloria Rhoades Quimby, died in March 1982.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Forest G. Hay Funeral Home, 435 S. Ironwood, with Rev. Fred Wintle, pastor of the Central United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Sumption Prairie Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home. He was a member of UAW Local 109 and the Central United Methodist Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
