Bernard J. Reiter

Bernard J. Reiter, 55, of 412 W. Mishawaka Ave., Mishawaka, formerly of South Bend, died at 7:20 a.m. Sunday in St. Joseph's Hospital after a week's illness. Mr. Reiter retired in 1967 from the South Bend Police Department after 20 years, and for eight years worked in the radio shop for South Bend. Born on Nov. 23, 1920, in South Bend, he had lived here until moving to Mishawaka eight years ago.

On May 3, 1947, he married Loretta Brezinski, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Joseph of Talbatton, Ga., and Timothy, at home; three daughters, Ann Dee of McLean, VA.; Mrs. Candice Kyler of Mishawaka and Sandra at home; two brothers, Theodore and Robert, both of South Bend; and a sister, Mrs. Dorothy Van Tornhout of South Bend.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the St. Monica Catholic Church, Mishawaka. Rev. Roman Zbieranski, O.S.M., head of St. Thomas Friary in Pennsylvania, and a cousin, will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today in the Kaniewski and Sons Funeral Home.

He was a world War II Veteran and a member of the Fraternal Order of Police.
