Louis P. Novak

Novak Louis P. Novak. Survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Mary Ann; daughters, Andrea Novak Neumann (Bruce), Monica Novak; loving grandchildren, Matthew, Laura and Abby; and sister, Joan Novak of South Bend, Indiana.

He graduated from Riley High School in South Bend, Indiana.

After high school he joined the Navy and was proud of his Navy Service. He graduated from Purdue University in 1950 with a degree in Electrical Engineering and then worked for Honeywell in the Military Avionics Division and retired after 32 years. His passion was Toastmasters and he belonged to the Midland Toastmasters Club of Minnesota District 6 for 40 years. He was District Governor of the Minnesota Region for the years 1981-1982 and went on to serve as an International Director on the Board of Toastmasters International during 1985-1987. Because of his work with Toastmasters and other community service, he was given the WCCO Good Neighbor Award in May 1982.

His work as Cultural Attache for the Honorary Consulate General of the Republic of Croatia was important to him in keeping his heritage alive. He was active in arranging venues for Croatian artists and receptions for Croatian Diplomats as well as fund raising. He was the President of the Croatian Cultural Society of Minnesota and represented the Croatians on the Board of the Immigration History Research Center at the University of Minnesota. Because of his love for the country of his parentage, he started a Friendship Force Club in Croatia and led the first exchange of 27 people there in 1999. For his work with the Friendship Force, he was selected the International Volunteer of the Year and received a commendation from former First Lady Roslyn Carter. He was a faithful servant of God and a member of St. Charles Borromeo Parish for 45 years.

A special thanks to his nurses and doctors, especially Dr. Jason Reed.

Reviewal will be held at the Billman-Hunt Funeral Home, 2701 Central Avenue NE, Minneapolis, MN on Thursday evening from 4-8 PM, with a 7 PM prayer service. Funeral will be held at St. Charles Borromeo, corner of Stinson & St. Anthony Pkwy on Friday morning at 10 AM. There will be a reviewal in the Atrium of the church one hour before the service. Lou died after complications related to heart surgery. The family prefers memorials be made to the Lou Novak Memorial Fund in lieu of flowers . Billman-Hunt Chapel 612-789-3535
