SOUTH BEND - Dorothy I. Nelson, 95, of Elmwood Park, IL, formerly of South Bend, IN, passed away on Sunday, September 27th, in her residence. She was born on April 19, 1914, in South Bend, to the late Blanche (Gerard) and Julius Butler. Dorothy was also preceded in death by a son, Louis A. Nelson III.

On November 2, 1943, in Chicago, IL, as Dorothy I. Butler, she married Louis A. Nelson Jr., who survives. Dorothy is also survived by three granddaughters, Jodie Nelson (Parm) of Elkhart, IN, Connie Nelson of South Bend and Crystal Nelson of Mishawaka, IN; and two great-grandchildren.

Dorothy was a graduate of Riley High School, South Bend.

She was secretary for the Ferrara Pan Candy Co., in Forest Park, IL. She had also served as a secretary to the principal, John Beyers, at Riley High School in 1959, and had worked at Oliver and Harrison Schools. She was a former member of First Presbyterian Church, South Bend, was a member of the Oak Park YMCA, and served as a secretary for many activities in the South Bend Community School Corporation.

Services for Dorothy will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30th, in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home, 521 N. William St., South Bend, where friends may call from 11 a.m. until services time. Burial will be at Highland Cemetery, South Bend. The family request that memorial contributions be made to First Presbyterian Church, 333 W. Colfax, South Bend, IN 46601; to the American Heart Association, 3816 Paysphere Circle, Chicago, IL 60674; or to the American Cancer Society, 601 W. Edison, Mishawaka, IN 46545.
