Maria "Mary" Theresa (Giefing) Kitt

SOUTH BEND - Mary T. Kitt, born Maria Theresa Giefing, passed away Saturday, March 1, 2014 in the Southfield Village senior care facility, of natural causes. Mary was born on October 6, 1922 to Robert Giefing and Maria Unger.

Mary was raised in South Bend with her five siblings, Ann, Carl, Herman, Matilda and Pauline.

A 1939 graduate of Riley High School, Mary went on to attend the South Bend College of Commerce, receiving her diploma in 1940.

Married in 1950 to John P. Kitt, Mary had one son, Robert F. Kitt, who passed away in 2011. Mary went on to retire from Express Freight Lines in South Bend, remaining a life-long resident. Mary Kitt is survived by one grandson, Jeremy R. Kitt.

Those who remember Mary will always remember her wit, and laughter at a good joke. Whether it was bowling with the girls, or enjoying a good paprikash with the family, Mary was always a shining light in the company of others. Her kind, generous heart and beautiful smile will be remembered always.

While no formal services will be held, the family welcomes friends and loved ones to join us at American Legion post 303, 2503 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend, IN 46615 on Saturday, March 8, from 4-6 pm, to celebrate the life of Mary.
