Barbara McCaughan (Quinby)

Barbara (McCaughan) Quinby

Barbara Quinby, 88, of Loveland, Colorado passed away on December 20, 2009. She was born on October 5, 1921 in South Bend, Indiana to Fredrick and Gladys McCaughan. She graduated from Riley High School in South Bend, Indiana.

She married Rodman V. Quinby on August 25, 1945 in Forest Hills, New York where they were both employed by United Airlines at La Guardia Airport. After living in Crystal Lake, Illinois from 1961 through 1972 she moved to Cary, Illinois and had lived in Loveland, Colorado for the past 13 years. Barbara was a homemaker and a very active volunteer with School Districts 47 and 155 in Crystal Lake and the Crystal Lake League of Women Voters. Assuring school bond issues were passed by voters was her passion. She worked as a school secretary at Canterbury Elementary School and as a Realtor for John Jung Realty in Crystal Lake for several years. She loved to knit, garden and travel the world, visiting most of the world's continents. She was mad about the game of cribbage and while living in Franklin Square, New York, was a founding member of the Cultured Cribbage Club. Summers were always important to Barbara, spending the summers of her youth at Grand Beach, Michigan and then summering in the 1950's on Lake Garfield in Monterey, Massachusetts. Her love of the theatre began as a school child, often on stage. Wherever she lived, Barbara sought out local theatre.

Barbara is survived by her sons, Brian Quinby of Chiang Mai, Thailand, Peter Quinby and wife Sara of Pueblo, Colorado, Tom Quinby and wife Gigi of Cumberland Foreside, Maine; daughter, Trish Will and husband Doug of Loveland, Colorado; 4 grandchildren, Nathan Will, Megan Quinby, Christopher Will and Aaron Quinby; 3 great grandchildren, Caitlin Will, Ashlee Will, and Gavin Will; "adopted sons", Michael McKnight of Murrieta, California and AFS Exchange Student, Heinz Nigg, of Zurich, Switzerland; sisters, Margaret Munger of Camarillo, California and Trish Robertson of Chesterfield, Massachusetts.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1970, brother, Greg McCaughan and sister, Fran Wysocki.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Loveland Rialto Theater at 2 P.M. on Saturday, January 23, 2009. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Barbara's name be made to the United Nations International Children's Education Fund (UNICEF) or the Loveland Youth Gardeners in care of Allnutt Funeral Service.
