SOUTH BEND - William H. McClure of Brooksville, Florida, age 92, passed away on Thursday, November 1, 2012. Bill's ashes will be interred at Florida's National Cemetery for Veterans. He was born in South Bend, Indiana, to Minnie (Byer) and Edward McClure on February 21, 1920.

In June 1949 Bill married Ruth V. (Heiermann), who preceded him in death in June 1973. On July 17, 1986, Bill married Cyrille, who survives as well as his children, Karen (Scott) McKibbin, Patricia (Ram Jasso) McClure, Mark (Rebecca) McClure, Debra (Mike) Schwartz, Judy Gilman and "adopted daughter," Laurie Booker; also brother, Donald G. McClure; six grandchildren, Chris (Courtney) Rhoades, April C. Lee, Jennifer (Steven Jr.) Fielder, Nicholas McClure, Marcus and Andrea Paternoster; 3 great-grandchildren, Jacob G. Lee, Steven G. Fielder III, William M. Rhoades; and many nieces and nephews.

Bill graduated from Riley High School in 1939 and served in WW II on the European front from 1942 until the end of the war in General Patton's Third Army. While serving his country, Bill's duties included the Military Police stateside, operation of heavy and light construction equipment and radio operational specialist with General Patton.

Bill knew the importance of work and started at the age of 15 as a pin setter at Bowl Mor Lanes. Being surrounded by bowling lanes, he gained a love of the sport. He was a member of many team leagues and played in numerous championship matches. He won the Marigold Invitational Classic at age 28 and was eventually inducted into the South Bend Bowlers Hall of Fame in 1992. Bill McClure also worked at Studebaker after the war until 1956 and retired from National Mill Supply in 1982. Bill also enjoyed playing softball and golfing. He could watch his Chicago Cubs games endlessly. He never lost faith in their chances for a World Series title. Bill was the eternal optimist.

Bill McClure will be remembered for his smile. Bill and his wife Cyrille have spent the last 26 years living in Brooksville, Florida, where they have enjoyed traveling, cruising on ships, attending musical performances and visiting their children and grandchildren. They loved their life together. Each day was a blessing for both of them. Bill was a member of the Moose Lodge and also member of the Veterans of the Battle of the Bulge, and Cloverleaf Veterans organization. While living in South Bend, Bill was a member of St. Peter's UCC Church where he coached the church softball team, sang in the choir, and served as a co-captain of the stewardship committee.

A Celebration of Life service will take place at St. Peter's UCC, 915 N. Ironwood in South Bend, at 11:00 AM on November 17th. A funeral banquet luncheon will follow.
