Richard J. Verhoestra

FISHERS - Richard Joseph Verhoestra Sr., 89, of Fishers, IN, formerly of South Bend, passed away Sunday, May 1, 2011, in Prairie Lakes Health Campus. Richard was born on September 4, 1921, to the late Frank and Rose (DeRuyck) in South Bend, IN.

On October 29, 1949, he married Helen (Stanfield), who survives along with their three children, Sue (Mike) Conroy of Evans, GA, Patty Verhoestra of Naperville, IL, Rick (Beth) Verhoestra of Fishers, IN; and by one sister, Margaret Shirey of South Bend. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Susan Kim (Tony Wiederhold) Conroy, Matthew Conroy, Adam and John Verhoestra.

Richard was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters.

Richard graduated from Purdue University as a pharmacist in 1948; he went to St. Matthew's Grade school and graduated from Riley High School.

Richard was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign War and Knights of Columbus. Richard was a member of the St. Joseph County Pharmacist Association. While attending Purdue, Richard joined the KAPPA PSI fraternity and belonged to the Purdue Reamers Club.

Visitation was held on Tuesday, May 3, 2011, from 2-5 p.m. in Bubb Funeral Chapel, 3910 N. Main St., Mishawaka, IN, 46545. A funeral Mass will be held today, May 4, 2011, in St. Anthony De Padua Church, 2120 E. Jefferson Blvd., South Bend, IN 46617, at 10 a.m., with visitation one hour prior in the church. Entombment will follow at Riverview Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Community Home Health Services Hospice, 9894 E. 12th St., Fishers, IN 46037-9913.
