Genevieve Lucinda Jeanne Hopkins (Martin) - Class Of 1959 VIEW PROFILE

Genevieve Lucinda Jeanne Hopkins (Martin)

Genevieve Lucinda (Hopkins)  Martin

September 3, 1941     -     August 19, 2011

'Jeanne'      Resident of Los Gatos

3 September 1941 - 19 August 2011

Born in South Bend, Indiana where she grew up loving the outdoors, an active member of 4-H, and excelled in maintaining friendships and achieving high academic standards.

Jeanne graduated from Indiana University with multiple honors and Phi Beta Kappa standing with a Fine Arts degree and teaching credential. It was at Indiana University that she met her husband Bob during her freshman year in 1959. They celebrated their 47th Wedding Anniversary on August 1st of this year.

Jeanne left us after being first diagnosed with cancer in mid July - after having been given a clean bill of health in June this same year.

Her family and friends from all over the world will miss their strong willed, caring, enthusiastic, loving friend.

But most of all her family - husband Bob, sons - Dave, Steve and Ryan, daughter-in-law Pattie and her precious granddaughters - Kylie and Sara will miss her understanding, her direction and her caring ways. She placed her families well being above her ownto the very end.

Jeanne taught elementary school in Santa Clara until moving to Los Gatos in 1975 where she taught Art - painting, drawing and ceramics, as well as multiple other subjects at Fisher Middle School. She then decided to take on another challenge; becoming a Real Estate Agent. Starting her career with Coldwell Banker and then moving to Alain Pinel in Los Gatos. She not only bought and sold homes for clients, but more often than not they became friends beyond clients.

Even to her last days there was an outpouring of cards and calls coming in to share in the pain with her family.

Jeanne, with Bob in tow, loved to travel throughout the U.S. and visited 21 countries throughout the world. Where again her outgoing personality gained her new and everlasting friends.

She was an incredible woman who always met every challenge with enthusiasm, energy and wit as all who knew her would agree. And that is how she left us - you are and will be missed Jeanne.

Have a safe travel

Services will be held at Los Gatos United Methodist Church (by Los Gatos High School) on Friday, August 26th, 2011 at 3PM.

CONDOLENCES

Earth has lost a wonderful person. Heaven has gained a wonderful angel.

John Underhill, South Bend, Indiana

Jeanne, I went on your Facebook page to wish you a happy birthday and saw the messages of condolence. Still can't believe it. We went all through James Monroe Elementary School and James Whitcomb Riley High School together. Even though we both lived in California never got around to visiting each other. Last saw you and your husband at the JWR 50th Class Reunion. Our sincere condolences to your family. Marilyn Petill Keith-Berkley & John Keith-Berkley

There are no words to describe this surreal feeling of memorializing such a good high school friend/sorority sister/incredible wife/mother/nana. Jeanne lived a life full of love and touched sooooo many people, & we can only rest assured that she is free of pain & spreading joy and love yet today. We are all better for having known her in our lives! Prayers for comfort and strength to you and your wonderful family, Bob. We love you, too!

Bob - John and I are both so very sorry to learn of Jeanne's passing. You both shared very special memories of family, friends and all of your travels. We will never forget, sitting at a restaurant in Munich and looking up to find you two, walking down the street. What a small world. Please know that you and your family are in our thoughts and prayers at this time.

Jeanne was an incredible woman whose humor and vibrancy touch all who knew her. I loved our friendship and the guidance and wisdom she offered me over the years. She will always be remembered as a dear friend and a kindred spirit. May God comfort you Bob, your sons, extended family and all who knew and loved her. She will be missed greatly.

I was so sorry to read about Jeanne's passing. She was my realtor during the long process to purchase my condo in Los Gatos. My situation was complicated, but Jeanne was there through the entire process from beginning to end. She was the first realtor to "hear" what I had to say about my most important priority--which was to stay in the Los Gatos School district. Her business card is still on my refrigerator. She was always professional, and what made her so special to me as her client, was her kindness and upbeat personality. I am sorry for your loss. She will be missed.

I knew Jeanne as a wonderful grandmother to Kylie. She brought Kylie to her horseback riding lessons every Monday. As I helped Kyie learn to ride my horse,BJ, Jeanne would encourage and praise Kylie for all her accomplishments and Kylie was always very pleased to have her grandmother there to watch her ride. Kylie was a very lucky girl to have such strong family support. I know Jeanne made a special impression on Kylie through this, and I am sure Kylie and I will remember those times with her grandmother with great fondness.

I was shocked and deeply saddened to hear the news of Jeanne's passing. My sincere condolences go out to Bob and their wonderful sons and family. I had the privilege of being neighbors with the Martins and babysitting their adorable young boys, way back when. I always admired Jeanne and, as a young teen, looked to her as a female role model, seeing that she was clearly dedicated as a wife, mother and professional. Although time and distance caused our relationship to become one that was based on correspondence,I was so appreciative that she took the time to maintain a relationship with me(and my family)for what must now be almost 45 years. She was always a source of encouragement (especially for me during my own personal challenges)and offered valuable knowledge and wisdom when she handled the sale of our Mother's home after my Dad died. I looked forward each year to sharing our Christmas letters and to exchange stories about growing families, travel and other life events. Undoubtedly, Jeanne's unique, loving, and caring personality will be tremendously missed. I was blessed to have known her.

Some of my best memories from junior high were spent in Mrs. Martin's art classes. She was an amazing teacher and really brought out the best in her students. I have thought about her often throughout the years. I also have many memories that include growing up with her son Ryan. So sorry to hear of her passing, but I am so happy to hear that she continued to live life to the fullest. My thoughts and condolences go to her family and friends.

Mrs. Martin taught me a lot about art in junior high school, and was one of my favorite teachers there. She had a warm and lively spirit and encouraged her students to learn. I have fond memories of her very nice and friendly son, Ryan. My deepest condolences to the family-you are all in my thoughts and prayers. Warmly, Lia Salciccia Prusha.
