Nancy Dianne Collins, 59, residing in South Bend, IN, passed away at 6:25 a.m. Monday, May 16, 2011 in Hospice House, Elkhart, IN. She was born on May 2, 1952 in Columbus, IN, a daughter of Newell P. "Newt" and Martha Helen (Rockwell) Collins, and has lived in South Bend most of her life, coming from Elkhart. Nancy was preceded in death by her mother Martha in 1986, a nephew Timothy Collins in 1990, and a niece Melissa Collins in 2000.
Nancy graduated from James Whitcomb Riley High School. She retired as a supervisor from St. Vincent de Paul Society following twenty years of service. She served as a board member for the Southmore Mutual Housing Corporation, Partnership Center of River Park, and River Park Neighborhood Association. She completed courses at the Citizen Police Academy and was a V.I.P. with the South Bend Police Department.
Nancy is survived by her father and step mother, Newell "Newt" and Peggy Collins of south Bend, her sister and brother-in-law, Peggy J. & Roger Leonhard, two brothers and sisters-in-law, Richard N. & Yolanda Collins, and Donald W. & Sandy Collins, all of South Bend, IN. She is also survived by five nieces and nephews, several great-nieces and nephews, and her lifelong friend, Betty (Ray) Hawn of South Bend, IN.
Memorial services celebrating the life of Nancy Collins will be at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 18, at the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 South Michigan Street, South Bend. Rev. Greg D. Crump will officiate. Interment will be at Southlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
