Mary Jo (Seese) Tolbert

Mary Jo Tolbert, 91 years old of Niles, formerly of Edwardsburg, passed to her rest May 18, 2023 at the home of her daughter, Kathy Gearhart, where she had been living. She was born May 23, 1931, the daughter of Virgil and Eva (West) Seese, in South Bend and moved to Edwardsburg in 1954. She and her husband Ed were the owners of a vegetable farm on US-12 at Lane Road, where they specialized in tomatoes, other vegetables and some fruit, selling from their home. Mary Jo spent 10 years as a secretary for the Edwardsburg Junior High School.

Mary Jo was married May 19, 1951 in South Bend, as Mary Jo Seese, to Loren Edward Tolbert; Ed passed away on November 8, 2016. Surviving are their children, Kathy (Mike) Gearhart of Niles and Margaret Worsham of Goshen. There are seven grandchildren: Michael (Erin), Eddie (Laura), Kristy (Chris), Kevin (Nancy), Karen, Chris (Kelly) and Amy (Sean). Mary Jo has 14 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren and one great-great-great-grandchild.

Family who preceded her in passing are her parents, her beloved husband Ed, and her son, Michael Jay Tolbert in 1962.

Family and friends may gather at the Paul E. Mayhew Funeral Home, 26863 West Main Street, Edwardsburg, from 10:00 AM until 12;00 Noon on Monday, May 22, 2023. At 12:00 Noon the Service of Remembrance will begin with Pastor Ron Leichy, officiating. Interment will follow in the Edwardsburg Cemetery family lot.
