Melvin Pasalich, 78, son of Mr. &  Mrs. Trifko Pasajlich, died at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center December 21, 2000. Melvin Pasalich, a Purple Heart veteran of World War II, served on the South Bend Police Department for 23 years before accepting the position of Chief of Police in Roseland, Indiana. Mr. Pasalich finished his work career as head security for the L.S. Ayres Company. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, as well as St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Church in Gary, Indiana.

Melvin Pasalich is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mildred Voynovich; a daughter, Sharon (Robert) Post; and his 3 grandsons, Greg, Ryan and Benjamin of Shaker Heights, Ohio; a brother, Michael Pasalich; and sister, Angela Arch of South Bend; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 23, 2000, in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 S. Kemble Avenue. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 2 - 8 today in the funeral home, where a Prayer Service will be held at 7:00 p.m.

Memorial contributions can be made to the church of the donor's choice
