September 18, 1934 - February 28, 2024

Maurice (Mauri) Donovan Stewart, age 89, of South Bend, Indiana, a loving serene man, Notre Dame and Green Bay Packers enthusiast, passed away on Wednesday, February 28th, 2024.

He was born on September 18, 1934, in Charleston, IL to the late Kenneth and Gladys (Hutts) Stewart. He married his long time love of his life Joyce Hock having had 35+ years together. He is preceded in death by one daughter Sandy Callaway and one son Jeff Stewart Maurice is survived by one daughter, Cindy Reihl and one son Patrick Stewart from an earlier marriage.

He is survived by his long time love Joyce Hock Stewart, her children who affectionately called him Poppi or Pops; Linda (Jerome-late) Sloma, Rhonda (Michael) Critchlow, Christopher (Terri) Hock and one son that preceded him in death Thomas (Esther) Hock. Maurice was a proud grandfather to several grandchildren including Richard (Denise) Hock, Jerome (Adrienne) Sloma, Jeff (Amanda) Sloma, Joseph (Jamie) Sloma, Jessica Sloma, Taylor Hock (Jason), Nicole (William) Wilkie, Jason (Olivia) Critchlow.

He was also the proud adopted father of his Maggie a golden Labrador he liked to call Ms. America.

Maurice was proud to be a Union Electrician employed for 40+ years with the I.B.E.W Local 153. His work took him all over. His love for adventure came through after retirement in the many trips he and Joyce took over the years from the beaches of Florida to the bowling alleys of Indiana and back to the Casinos in Michigan or Las Vegas. He graduated from Riley High School in 1953 and joined the Marines serving his country as an aircraft mechanic from 1953 to 1955. He remained loyal to the Marines and to his Wildcats! He was a Former member of the Eagles lodge 435, Bowler’s C.C., Maennerchor, Inc and former member of Turners. He loved to bowl and had a passion for the game of golf. He was very proud to have had 3 holes in one over his lifetime. We will miss the many adventures we had with Poppi and have wonderful memories of the fun times, support he provided and know he is now on the
best adventure resting with God and the angels.

We would like to express our gratitude to Morgantown Health Care-Inn, Morgantown, Indiana for providing a loving, safe and warm environment for Maurice (Poppi).

Graveside services will be held at a later date.
