Harold Duane Rankin

Harold D. Rankin, 87 years old, passed away at 3:55 a.m. on Easter Sunday, March 31, 2024 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Harold was born on May 9, 1936 in Bourbonnais, IL to the late Ralph and Ethel Bertha (Smith) Rankin. Harold has lived in South Bend most of his life. On September 22, 1957 in South Bend, Harold and Joyce Berkheiser were united in marriage.
Along with Joyce, his loving wife of 66 years, Harold is survived by their four children, Rhonda (Brad) Reinhold, Renae (Donald) Frick, Randy (Carla) Rankin, and Ray (Jan) Rankin, all of South Bend. Harold is also survived by twelve grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his 10 brothers and sisters.
Harold was passionate about Christ and loved Joyce with the same intensity. Harold was the owner of Rankin Automotive and enjoyed engaging with customers and listening to their stories. He also was proud to serve with Joyce and many good friends in the South Bend VIP policing program. Harold was great at fixing anything and is probably working on one of Heaven’s chariots right now.
A memorial service celebrating the life of Harold D. Rankin will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 6, 2024 at the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan Street, South Bend. Pastor Mark Rydzinski will officiate. Friends may visit with the family beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
