Sue Jahnke (Paris) - Class Of 1965

Sue Jahnke (Paris)

Riley 1965 Susan (Jahnke) Paris

October 14, 1947 ~ June 8, 2016

Susan Jahnke Paris passed away in Boise, ID at her home Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at the age of 68. Her family was with her consistently throughout her long, courageous battle with cancer. Sue was born in Chicago, IL on October 14, 1947, the second daughter of Karl and Betty Jahnke.

Her childhood was spent in South Bend, Indiana where she formed fond memories of family dinners following a prayer said by her father, family road trips in summer, her parents piano playing, and family stories at bedtime. Family always meant the world to her.

Sue graduated from Riley High School in 1965 and attended Indiana University in Bloomington where she was in the Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority. She met Robert 'Bob' Paris during their very first college dance or "mixer" in Sept. '65. They were married February 3, 1968 and moved back to Bob's home state, Hawaii, where she completed her education at the University of Hawaii at Manoa with a degree in Mathematics in 1969.

Sue worked as a computer programmer for two and one-half years before taking on her most important and cherished role she held in life, Mom. She and Bob welcomed their first child, Robert 'Rob' in 1971, second child, a daughter, Cathy, in 1973 and last child, Charles 'Chad', in 1976.

Sue was an active member of Keolumana United Methodist Church in Kailua, teaching Sunday school and hosting bible studies. She was a Girl Scout leader, homework checker, supported her children's sports or other endeavors, and planned and organized large family reunions or vacations almost annually. She cataloged over 30,000 family photos/videos into digital media (many from the pre-digital era) leaving a wonderful legacy to look back on.

In 2005, Bob and Sue moved to Boise, Idaho to be closer to their three children who had settled in the Boise and Denver areas. They joined First Presbyterian Church in Boise and later Sue became a deacon there. She also spent time traveling with Bob and family, made their children and grandchildren a priority and loved to bring family together. Sue was very thoughtful, extremely organized and had a quick wit. She loved to tell and receive good jokes and was known for her puns.

Sue is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, Robert 'Bob' Paris; their three children Rob (Kendis) Paris, Cathy (Ben) Carr, and Charles Paris; their 5 grandchildren Kaylee, Megan, and James Carr, Maile and Alia Paris; two brothers Richard (Nancy Mitchel) Jahnke and Doug (Merilee) Jahnke; and their 6 nieces and nephews; Bill and John Nagel, Rebecca Bartol, Elizabeth and Laura Paris, and Kate Cantu. She was preceded in death by her parents Karl and Betty Jahnke, sister Jill (Steve) Roberts, and niece Laura Jahnke.
