Kevin Michael Powers

South Bend Tribune 10/10/2004 Kevin Michael Powers, 54, of Bariger Place, South Bend, Ind., died following a battle with cancer at 12:45 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 7, in his residence. Mr. Powers was born March 17, 1950, in South Bend, to Dorothy J. (Reis) and Edgar C. Powers Jr., and was a lifetime area resident.
On Aug. 19, 1972, in Monroe, Mich., he married Nancy J. McConnell, who survives. Also surviving are one daughter, Sarah J. (Chad) Johnston of South Bend; one son, Matthew J. Powers of South Bend; his parents, Dorothy L. and Edgar C. Powers Jr. of South Bend; and one sister, Kim A. (Gene Cavich) Powers of Columbus, Ind.
Kevin had been employed as a trust officer at First Source Bank for over 15 years. He was a 1968 graduate of Riley High School where he was class president, a three-sport captain, and all-state quarterback. He was an inductee of the Riley High School Hall of Fame. He was also a 1972 graduate of Western Michigan University where he played football and baseball.
He was a lifetime Cubs, Bears and Notre Dame fan. He spent 30-plus years with his closest friends on the softball diamond on a team that eventually became known as "The Legends."
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 11, in the Sunnyside Presbyterian Church, with Rev. James Miller officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Memorial Park. Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. today, Oct. 10, in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Road.
