Elizabeth A Betty Smith (Monhaut Ledsome)

October 22, 1950 - February 20, 2021
Elizabeth "Betty" A. (Smith) Monhaut Ledsome, age 70, passed away from complications from Covid 19, on Saturday, February 20, 2021 at Franciscan Hospital in Crown Point, IN surrounded by her loving husband and children. 

Betty was born in South Bend, IN to William and Katherine (Modus) Smith. She graduated from James Witcomb Riley High School and later went on to graduate from Marion College with a bachelor’s in Physical Education and Health. Betty was a substitute teacher for the Portage Township Schools in the 1980s & 1990s and then got a full time job teaching Physical Education in the Catholic School System working at Our Lady of Grace in Highland, St. Michael’s School in Schererville and St. Patrick’s School in Chesterton, and Liberty Intermediate School in Chesterton. 

Betty married her sweetie Daniel Ledsome, who she met online 20 years ago and was married February 14, 2003. Daniel was the love of her life and she was grateful for all that he has done for her over the years. She was a big Chicago Cubs fan and was able to travel to spring training a few times in AZ. She was also a Chicago Bears fan (even though she married into a Green Bay Packers family). She loved to travel with Dan and explore new places. She enjoyed seeing her grandchildren and spending time with them. Betty had a big heart for many people and cherished the friendships she had. She liked being on Facebook so that she is able to see what everyone is up to. Betty was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Valparaiso and was involved in the youth group, Rainbows, CCD teacher and choir. She also enjoyed reading, watching TV shows with her sweetie Daniel Ledsome and spending time with her dog Sandy. 

Betty is survived by her husband Daniel; her children: Jaime (Ron) Reed, Jason (Betsy) Monhaut, Jacob Monhaut; step children: Jennifer Ledsome, Daniel A. Ledsome, Eric (Amy) Ledsome, and Mathew (Sydney) Ledsome. Grandchildren: Justin Reed, Jenna Reed, Wrigley Monhaut, Chloe Reed, JC Cruz, Ava Ledsome, Landin Ledsome, Ayriana Ledsome, Kane Bechtel and Khloee Bechtel. Sister, Barbara (Tom) Phend and sister in law Ann (Bruce) VanArsdale and was an aunt to Billy (Tasha Ricketts) Smith, Tracie (David) Arndt, Jeff (Sarah) Phend and Kevin (Erin) Phend. 

Betty was preceded in death by her parents William and Katherine, brothers James and Emery Smith. 

Visitation for Betty will be Friday, February 26, 2021, from 5-7pm at Edmonds and Evans Funeral Home, 6941 Central Ave, Portage, IN. A celebration of life will be held at 7pm with Father John Zemelko officiating. A full Catholic Mass will follow at a later date. 

Donations can be made to Daniel Ledsome, 5252 Seaford Ave, Portage, IN 46368, for medical expenses that was occurred over the last several months.
