SOUTH BEND - Maxine Louise Davis, 77, of Mishawaka, was called home on April 7, 2017 surrounded by her family. The Linton, Indiana native was born May 16, 1939 to Emery Wayne and Bernice Maxine (Smith) Bemis, both of whom have preceded her in death. On November 28, 1970, Maxine married Michael Davis of Mishawaka, who survives. Also left to cherish her memory are her children, Dee (Bill) Baker-Milum of Northlake, Texas, Tracy (Chris) Belakovich of Elkhart, IN, Wallace Davis of Paragould, Arkansas, and Holly (Kevin) Alfrey of Elkhart, IN; 9 grandchildren: Kristi (Pete) Hinton, Amanda (Marcus) Craft, Kaley and Morgan Belakovich, Cody, Michelle, Wally, and Philip Davis, and Abagael Alfrey; 3 great-grandsons, Tanner, Braxton, and Jackson; a brother, Dale (Toni) Bemis; 2 sisters, Deb Spreybroeck and Rebecca Gosa; and her beloved cats and dog Maggie. She was preceded in death by her parents, Emery and Lora Bemis and Bernice Cox. Maxine was a caretaker by nature, always putting her family first and made sure her family had everything they needed. She was a member of Southlawn Methodist Church and the Golden Gang bowling league at Chippewa Lanes. She loved animals, a good game of cards with her family, occasional trips to the casino, trips to Las Vegas, and goin' “down home” to visit with her family in Coalmont, IN. She enjoyed vacationing at Manistee Lake and Fish Lake and the time she spent there fishing. Mom will be greatly missed but left us with many memories which we will cherish forever. Like the angels you loved, soar with them now, Mom. Until we see you again, we love you forever and always. Friends and family will be received on Monday, April 10, 2017 from 4-7 PM at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Highway, Osceola, IN 46561. A funeral service in Maxine's honor will be held on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at 10 AM with burial to follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. The family's preferred memorial is to an animal shelter or an animal rescue of the donor's choice.
