Thomas B. Slater
March 10, 1934 ~ December 11, 2022
Thomas “Tom” B. Slater, age 88, of Nappanee, passed away at 7:40 a.m., Sunday, December 11, 2022 at Wellbrooke of South Bend. He was born March 10, 1934 in South Bend to Nichols and Maybelle (West) Slater.
Thomas was a lifetime area resident. He was a South Bend Riley High School gradutate, went on to receive his Bachelor Degree from Purdue, where he was part of the Purdue Glee Club; he then received his Master’s Degree from Indiana University. Thomas was a U.S. Army Veteran.
On December 28, 1963 he married Suzanne “Sue” O’Donnell at the First Methodist Church, South Bend. She preceded him in death on December 28, 2015.
Thomas was a History Teacher for Penn Harris Madison School district, and was a District Uni-Serve Director for Indiana State Teachers Association for many years. Thomas was a member of the Nappanee United Methodist Church and was involved with the choir and Sunday School. He was a member of the Nappanee Rotary Club and Nappanee Library Board.
Surviving are his daughter, Cindi (Tony) Suddon, Otsego, MI and a son, Michael Slater, Mishawaka; grandchildren, Brennan and Andrew; and a sister, Karen (Ciro) Haraguchi, South Bend. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; siblings, Eugene and Donald.
Family and friends may call from 10 – 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 28, 2022 at Nappanee United Methodist Church followed by a 11 a.m. memorial service. Rev. Kevin Reed will officiate. Memorial contributions may be given to St. Joseph Center for Hospice. Arrangements are with Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee.
