Richard Eugene Sult

March 23, 1933 - November 23, 2008

Richard Eugene Sult, a lifelong resident of South Bend, passed away at 3:15 p.m. Sunday, November 23, 2008 in Memorial Hospital, South Bend. He was 75 years old.

He was born March 23, 1933 in South Bend, the son of Robert & Helen (Rupert) Sult, and graduated from James Whitcomb Riley High School.

He served in the National Guard from 1952 -1956.

On September 11, 1954 at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, South Bend, he was united in marriage to Mary Evelyn Anderson. His loving wife Mary Evelyn of fifty-four years survives him. Also surviving are two sons, Eric R. Sult of South Bend, and Dr. Timothy M. (Jacqui) Sult of Raleigh, NC. Two grandchildren also survive him, Bridgit & Soren Sult both of Raleigh, NC. Two sisters, Margaret Ann Ford and Roberta Sue Bergen both of Mishawaka, and two brothers, Thomas (Loni) Sult of South Bend, and Robert (Joyce) Sult of Mishawaka, and a sister-in-law, Patricia Sult of South Bend survive Richard as well.

His parents and a brother, Kenneth Sult preceded him in death.

Mr. Sult retired as Purchasing Agent with Cast Products in Elkhart. He was a longtime member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, South Bend, a forty-eight year member of District 11 Little League where he held many offices through the years including Assistant District Administrator. He was also a member of Indiana High School Athletic Association for forty-eight years where he umpired softball and baseball, and was a former member of American Turners.

Services will be at Noon, Saturday, Nov. 29, at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 225 E. Haney Street, South Bend. Rev. Jeff Zell will officiate. Graveside services and burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3:00 - 8:00 p.m. Friday at the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 South Michigan Street, South Bend, and one hour prior to services Saturday at the Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that all memorials on behalf of Mr. Sult be offered to Gloria Dei Lutheran Church Building Fund, 225 E. Haney Street, South Bend, IN 46613.
