SOUTH BEND, IN - Joseph I. Lippincott, 86, of South Bend, IN, passed away on Monday, December 24, 2018 in his home.

He was born on February 16, 1932 to the late Fredrick and Bertha (Bennett) Lippincott in South Bend, IN. Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by his first-born son; one sister, Mary Hager; and a daughter-in-law, Brenda M. Lippincott.

Joseph graduated in 1950 from Riley High School in South Bend. He retired in 1998 from the South Bend Community School Corporation, where he worked as a Building Engineer at LaSalle High School, for 38 years.

On June 26, 1955, he married Marilyn J. Sherwood at Trinity Methodist Church in South Bend, IN. Marilyn passed away on July 18, 2012.

Joseph is survived by his four sons, Gary Lippincott, Duane Lippincott, David (Tina) Lippincott, and Mark Lippincott, all of South Bend, IN; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, William Lippincott of Tempe, AZ; and one sister, Betty Schumaker of Mishawaka, IN.

Joseph was a United States Army Veteran, and served during the Korean War, where he was based in Alaska in the anti aircraft battery. He was a member of Sumption Prairie Methodist Church in South Bend, involved in Boy Scouts of America for several years, enjoyed fishing, and was an avid sports fan, especially the Chicago Cubs, Notre Dame men's hockey, and Notre Dame women's basketball.

Visitation will be from 2:00 until 6:00 pm on Thursday, December 27, 2018 in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Dr., South Bend, IN.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am Friday, December 28, 2018 at The Sumption Prairie United Methodist Church, 24535 Roosevelt Rd., South Bend, IN, where family and friends may visit from 10:00 until 11:00 am prior to the service. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery, where Military Honors will be conducted.
