SOUTH BEND - Irene Sandor passed away peacefully on March 18, 2018 at her home in Valparaiso, Indiana.

She was born February 1, 1928 in South Bend, Indiana to Alex and Margaret (Horvath) Vargo. Irene loved being a stay-at-home Mom, singing, dancing, and baking. Her highlight, though was being involved in the lives of her grandchildren and great-grandchidren. She will forever be remembered by her family as “The Sunshine in their lives.” On June 28, 1947 she married Charles Sandor.

Survivors are her three children, Kathy Rudolph of Valparaiso, IN, Dr. Charles (Linda) Sandor of Glen Ellyn, IL, and Kevin (Kristie) Sandor of Granger, IN; her sister, Elizabeth (Paul) Mroczkiewicz of South Bend; a sister-in-law, Elsie Sanders, as well as many nieces and nephews. She had 8 grandchildren, Michael (Kacie) Rudolph, Angela (Marc) Schemel, Kaitlin, Nicole, Charlie, Patrick, Lauren, and Morgan Sandor; as well as 6 great-grandchildren, Michael and Mary Rudolph, and Landon, Daphne, Iris, and Norah Schemel. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; her son-in-law, Michael Rudolph; 4 sisters, Margaret Sabo, Mary Fritz, Rose Cinkowski, and Helen Scott; and 3 brothers, Alex, Louie, and Eugene Vargo.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am Friday, March 23, 2018 in Our Lady of Hungary Church, 829 W. Calvert Street, South Bend, IN. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Family and friends may gather from 4-8 Thursday in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 Kemble Avenue, South Bend, IN where a Rosary will be recited at 5:00 pm.
