Madeline I (Griffith) Auer

South Bend, IN-Madeline I. Auer, 95, passed away on Tuesday, July 13, 2021.  Madeline was born in Jasonville, IN, on December 2, 1925, to the late Grover and Myrtle (Rouse) Griffith.  She was 5th of 7 children.  She moved to South Bend in 1943 and graduated from Riley High School class of 1944.  On June 19, 1948, Madeline married the late Don “Fred” Auer who preceded her in death on March 15, 1993.  Madeline is also preceded in death by her sisters, Ciara Teeter, Martha Jane Hubbell, Marjorie King, and Mary Bell Schidleer; and brothers, George and Estil Griffith.  She is survived by her daughter, Susan (Kevin) McGowan; son, Robert (Angela Duvall) Auer; 5 grandchildren, Philip A. McGowan, Kaitlyn (Isaac) Reichert, Zachary Auer, Abigail Auer, and Jacob McGowan; and great-grandchildren, Kayla, Andrew and Charles McGowan.

Madeline was a long-time member of the Eastern Star and called Harris Prairie Church of Christ her home church for over 35 years.  The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at Southfield Village and Center for Hospice for the wonderful care they gave Madeline.

Family will receive friends 3-6 pm, Sunday, July 18th at Hahn Funeral Home in Mishawaka.  Please join us in a Celebration of Madeline’s Life on Monday, July 19th at 10:00 am at Hahn Funeral Home. 

The family has requested that memorial contributions be made to Center for Hospice Care at 501 Comfort Place, Mishawaka, IN 46545.
