MISHAWAKA - Ervin John Nowicki, 90, of Mishawaka, IN, passed away peacefully on November 29, 2015, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Mishawaka. He was born on November 14, 1925 in South Bend, IN to John C. and Laura (Stangeriak) Nowicki. He married Rosemary (Bice) Nowicki at St. Matthew's Church in South Bend on October 23, 1945. Ervin was preceded in death by his sons, John E. Nowicki and Michael L. Nowicki; and his sister, Dorothy J. (Nowicki) Hassan. He is survived by his brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his daughter-in-law, Carmela (Zappia) Nowicki; his grandson, John M. (Adrienne) Nowicki; and his beloved wife, Rosemary. Ervin graduated from Riley High School in 1944. He was drafted by the Naval Air Force and served from 1944-1947 in the Pacific Theater as a bow gunner on an F40 Privateer. He worked for the Studebaker Corporation and retired from School City of Mishawaka as a storeroom handler. Ervin was also the co-owner (with his wife) of Erv's Café in Mishawaka for 8 years (1960-1968) where he became known for his coney dogs and chili. Before completing his “sentimental journey,” he achieved one of his life goals by celebrating his 90th birthday. Ervin will be cremated and the burial will be held at a later date. A visitation will be held on Friday, December 4, 2015 from 4:00-8:00 pm at Bubb's Funeral Chapel in Mishawaka.
