CASSOPOLIS - F. Eugene (Gene) Mock, 82, of Diamond Lake, Cassopolis, MI, passed away Wednesday Mach 25, 2009 in Memorial Hospital following an Illness. Born January 22, 1927 in Redkey, IN to the late Ferris L. and Lillian G. (Whittern) Mock. Also preceding him in death was a brother Dana Mock.

On July 15, 1949 in Grace United Methodist Church he married the former Beverly J. Korkhouse, who survives. They celebrated 60 years of marriage. Left to cherish his memory are daughters, Nancy L. DeVoe (Thomas) Edwardsburg, MI, and Susan L. Horstmann (Douglas) Cassopolis, MI; six grandchildren Timothy DeVoe (Natalie), Jennifer and Pamela DeVoe, Steven, Michelle and Stacey Horstmann; and three great-grandchildren, Dyllan, Emma and Maximus; sister, Wanda Flesher; sisters-in-law Barbara Mock and Freda Collier; and many nieces and nephews; and his favorite dog, Lucky.

Mr. Mock graduated from Riley High School and furthered his education at Bethel College graduating in 1963 with his teaching degree.

He taught at Brandywine High School in Niles, MI. Owning and Operating his own business was his passion and legacy, including Mobile Oil service station in Clay Township and Dixie-Hy-Way Feed Store. He spent many summers at Indian Lake and in 1975 he retired to Diamond Lake enjoying fishing, boat rides and the 4th of July family celebrations. He was always lovingly referred to as our "Camp Director". He was a former volunteer with the Clay Township Fire Department and member of the Clay Lions Club. He was a member of Council Oak Lodge, past member of the Board of Directors of the National Bank in South Bend. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. The family wants to specially thank Nicki Jo Wingeart, his in home Health Aid, for all her love and caring.

Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday March 28th in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home 521 N. William St., where friends may visit with the family from 2:00 p.m. till time of service.
