Joseph A. Szabo
August 23, 1948 ~ November 25, 2021 (age 73)
Joseph Aloysius Szabo, 73, passed away Thursday, November 25, 2021 at his residence. Born August 23, 1948 in Fertoszeplak, Hungary, Joe immigrated to the United States during the 1956 Hungarian Revolution.
Joe graduated from Indiana University Bloomington in 1975 with a degree in psychology. In 1981 he graduated with a Juris Doctor (JD) from Drake University Law School. Joe proudly served as a first lieutenant in the United States Army, receiving the Army Commendation Medal while serving his country.
Joe was a voracious reader of all subjects. He enjoyed gardening, movies, holiday meals with family and bargain hunting. Joe was a passionate lover of animals, especially to his beloved dog Arkie. Those who know Joe will always remember and appreciate his philosophical banter and fascinating conspiracy theories. Joe's greatest accomplishment, and one he took great pride in, was his role as primary caregiver to both his mother and his father -- for two decades.
Joe is preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Magda (Lorincz) Szabo and his sister Magda Vegh. He is survived by nephews Van Vegh and Rudy Vegh and numerous other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 8th from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 Kemble Avenue. Funeral service will be conducted at 1:30 pm by Fr. Kevin Bauman.
