Owen "Butch" D. Morgan, Jr.

Owen D. “Butch Morgan, Jr., 73, a lifelong resident of South Bend, passed away early Friday morning, January 6, 2023, in his home.

He was born May 29, 1949 in South Bend, a son of the late Owen D. Morgan Sr., & Marlene Franklin Morgan May. Butch was a graduate of James Whitcomb Riley High School and attended Indiana State University in Terre Haute.

It was in high school that he was introduced to politics and became active in the Young Democrats Organization. He has remained an active member of the democratic party the remainder of his life, having served as Chairman of St. Joseph County Democratic Party.

He was also an active member of his church, Hilltop Lutheran Church where he served on the council.

Butch cared deeply about the city of South Bend and its residents. He was good at politics because he loved to talk to people and hold meetings. He also had a great love for animals and his dogs. He was a big supporter of the University of Note Dame and the ND Girls Basketball team. He was a frequent customer of South Bend Chocolate Company and Kris’s Kountry Kitchen. In his younger years, he was active with the YMCA.

Butch is survived by his sister, Pamela K. Sheppard of Argos, IN; his brother, Thomas M. (Rosie) Morgan of Plymouth, IN; along with a niece, Dee Sheppard-Campbell, and four nephews, Mac Sheppard, Benjamin Morgan, David Morgan, and Michael Morgan, and several great-nieces and nephews. His brother-in-law, Raymond Sheppard preceded him in death in September 2022.

He was employed for more than 20 years as Vice President of Marketing at DLZ Engineering Co. and was currently employed at 7NT Marketing.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Monday, January 16, at the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 South Michigan St., South Bend.

Services will be at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 17, at Trinity Evangelical Free Church, 61770 Miami Road, South Bend, with visitation beginning at 2:00 p.m. at the church.
