Mary Louise “Mary Lou” (Hesser) Fleishaker

Ramsey, NJ - Mary Lucille Fleishaker, age 79 of Ramsey, NJ, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Feb. 17, 2022.
Daughter of Russell Hesser and Mary (Baker) Hesser, "Mary Lou" is survived by Ken, her loving husband for 58 years, sisters Joan Forslund and Cheryl Barker of South Bend, IN, and brother Richard (Ruth) Hesser of Mishawaka, IN. Also, her cherished niece, Cheryl (Fleishaker) Daut of Lake Oswego, OR, always loved and thought of as her "adopted" daughter.
Mary Lou was employed by the Minolta Corp. in Ramsey for 25 years before her retirement in 1990. She loved the outdoors and was happiest when fishing, whether camping and trolling for salmon in The Great Lakes, ocean fishing off the Jersey shore, or fishing in many of the lakes and reservoirs in NJ. She was the recipient of the "NJ Anglers Award for 2012" for landing a 30 inch walleye pike when fishing the Monksville Reservoir. Always the "catch and release" advocate, the event was recorded and the fish returned to the water unharmed.
She loved to travel to new places, but the annual 'get out of cold New Jersey' cruise to the Caribbean in February remained at the top of her destinations list. Always accompanied by family and friends, it was a special event that she looked forward to every year. But Ken noticed that they had been there so often that the owners of the shops immediately recognized them, welcoming them using their names. He suggested that it may be time to consider a different warm weather destination. Always quick with a come back, Mary Lou suggested changing their names.
She felt blessed that she was able to travel to South Bend in October for a final visit with family and friends that included her siblings, nephews, nieces and friends dating back to high school.
At Mary Lou's request, cremation and funeral services will be private with a memorial planned on a future date in South Bend for the convenience of the family.
